Rainy Day Remix: 3 Ways to Get Over an Overcast Day

Location: Trenanthia Cottage located in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada (90 min north of Toronto)
A dull, rainy weekend at the cottage doesn’t have to put a damper on your plans - but let’s face it, it usually does. Too much time doing nothing and suddenly the lovely bunch you traveled with feel like your rivals on an episode of Lost. Yikes. The next time a rainy day rains on your parade, give your indoor activities a much needed boost with these super fun game ideas:

Cards Against Humanity

Brace yourselves. This aint your grandma’s card game. Well, unless it actually is your grandma’s card game. The point is that Cards Against Humanity is not for the faint of heart. It’s for people with a dark, twisted sense of humour and a wacky imagination. Read a sentence aloud, fill in the blank with one of the noun cards in your hand. Guaranteed belly laughs, so be prepared for a lot of fun...perhaps after the kidlets are off to bed.

Board Game Mashup

board games stacked on top of each other

It’s the r-r-r-reeemix! Board games are an intrinsic part of the cottage life, but they get old pretty fast. In fact, I think it’s an unspoken rule that every cottage have a 20 year old box of Scrabble or a Ouija board collecting cobwebs somewhere. Spice things up by taking two of your family’s fave board games and combining the rules and concepts to create your own fun new game. Example: have players jump across different boards, use Trivial Pursuit answers to move forward in Monopoly, etc. It’s all up to you, Board Game Gods. The crazier the better!

Casino Night

Transform your humble cottage-y abode into a Vegas hotspot. Flashing lights optional but encouraged. Forget “Go Fish”, bring out the Poker and Blackjack! With chips flying and dice rollin’, you’re bound to have a blast. Bonus idea: raise the stakes! Instead of betting for money, make it more interesting by gambling for cottage chores, or candy. Remember, what happens in Muskoka stays in Muskoka...
